  • Kalpa Tree Press - KALPA TREE PRESS "Kalpa Tree" means the wish-fulfilling tree in Sanskrit. Kalpa Tree Press aims to meet readers' spiritual needs at the deepest level in a long-established Eastern tradition. Specifically, we publish contemporary classics in the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda tradition of Vedanta. Through spiritual writings and biographies of exceptional quality, we aim to bring the inspiration of practical Vedanta to general readers, while informing students of religious studies. In the broad perspective of Vedanta, we offer a range of high quality books that express the universal spirit through religion, literature, and the arts. Kalpa Tree Press was established in September of 2000 in order to publish Centred in Truth: The Story of Swami Nitya-swarup-ananda (a two-volume set with 1,128 pages and 131 illustrations) and to offer it at a reasonable price. This monumental work gives readers a dynamic view of Vedanta philosophy and its forceful role in creating a truly humane world civilization. The global vision of Vedanta—originally preached in the West by the great Swami Vivekananda at the Parliament of Religions in 1893—was Swami Nitya-swarup-ananda's lifelong crusade. Kalpa Tree Press will continue to publish works that deserve to be called contemporary classics. Our publications help readers understand how India's timeless philosophy can be practiced on its highest and deepest levels in a contemporary mode, and how Vedanta can spiritualize communal, as well as personal, thought and endeavor.

  • Maharishi Mahesh Yogi - This site provides a taste of the wondrous ideas and practical programs that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has offered to the people of the world in his joyous task of creating Heaven on Earth. Maharishi's activities may change as time demands but the underlying eternal flow of compassion, love, bliss and total determination to create Heaven on Earth never ceases to amaze us and to bless the world. We feel honored to have been able to learn from Maharishi and wish to share with you a little of our good fortune. Enjoy! Maharishi's message is as old as mankind: the basis of life is unbounded Bliss. This can be effortlessly experienced by everyone in daily life regardless of age, culture, or beliefs. This experience of Bliss provides many practical benefits for everyone. Only a simple, effortless procedure need be taught. It is not necessary to strain, suffer or renounce the world to achieve spiritual growth. This same message has been taught by many great saints and wise men throughout the long history of life. From time to time the essential message gets distorted and eventually becomes ineffective as the effortlessness of the practice is lost. In search for spiritual growth people begin to take up practices reserved only for those monks and sages who have renounced the world. These techniques are not suited for those living in the world. Using them improperly leads to all kinds of confusion. Eventually life ceased to be easily lived in accord with Natural Law. Suffering prevailed. (even encouraged in the name of spiritual growth!)

  • Sentient.org - At the age of sixteen Ramana Maharshi left his home, his family, and all he knew. He felt drawn to Arunachula - a small mountain in Southern India. He lived there for the rest of his life. His only possessions were a piece of cloth to cover himself, and a walking stick. Little by little word of a sage living alone on Arunachula mountain became known. Many felt drawn to sit in his presence. He seldom spoke. But occasionally he would respond to questions. This site is dedicated to the peace and fulfillment toward which he pointed. Before the question is asked, you have already arrived. Before taking a step, you are already home. Dear Friend - dear because you are the bedrock upon which and through which this lovely world exists. This site began at the end of 1991 as a list of teachers we (a group of personal friends scattered about in several countries) knew personally, and liked. Now after more than a decade things have changed - we have ceased to care about the search, the path, teachers, or indeed about awakening at all. Such concepts are no longer of interest. It seems to us rather, that life is very simple and vibrant. Sometimes it is easy. Sometimes not. But for us the central actor seems, somehow to have miraculously bowed out of the play. Hence we have trimmed down this site, leaving just a few things that people over the years have written to say they enjoyed. We wish you love and life and joy. May you never find what it is you think you are seeking, but rediscover instead the eternal presence of your own absence. Words are of no use. All that appears is simply the Self seeing itself through the form. In this dance of appearance we sometimes forget to turn around and look at the Light in which all that appears is formed. –Amber

  • Vidya Vrikshah - Vidya Vrikshah is an association of people drawn together, by devotion to the free spread of knowledge, much, as the name suggests, like a tree that gives freely to anyone seeking it's shade and fruit. The activities of Vidya Vrikshah rest on participation of anyone who subscribes to it's objective of the free spread of knowledge, devoid of profit. A small group constituted as a public charitable trust functions as a nodal point for handling the essential coordination and technical tasks. In seeking to promote the free spread of knowledge, Vidya Vrikshah takes it's guidelines from our ancient texts. The Krishna Yajur Veda (Taittiriya Samhita -VI-3.10.5) teaches us that we are all born with three debts, one to the gods, the second to our ancestors and the third to our ancient seers. The last debt is that of knowledge that the seers have bequeathed to us. This teaching implies that our present lives must be used to repay these debts. Our ancient tradition also tells us that the free spread of knowledge is a great way of doing so. The Gita declares (3-12) that one who has received anything from the world but has not given back anything in return, is no more than a thief. And the Sukla Yajur Veda prescribes (XXVI-2) that knowledge must be passed on to all without distinction of sex, caste or race. Vidya Vrikshah has spelt out it's objectives in terms of the following activities : (a) Preservation and dissemination of ancient texts of the Indian heritage, in the Indian languages, from books, manuscripts and other sources, along with simple translations and commentaries, for the benefit of interested people across the world through the use of Information Technology and the medium of the Internet; and (b) Developing solutions and and conducting training programmes for enhancing the quality and extending the reach of literacy, education and skills through the computer usage in local languages, especially to the socially and the physically disadvantaged in the country. Our approach to implementing these objectives is through community mobilisation and participation. We started Vidya Vrikshah in April, 1998, and now have a strength of over 150 Volunteers, contributing various services in pursuit of the above objectives. These volunteers are drawn from housewives, senior citizens and professionals, and include many persons who have retired from very senior positions in Government and Industry. Our volunteers also include some who are visually impaired, but have overcome their disabilities in exemplary ways. Our entire activity rests on a voluntary, no profit basis, with volunteers contributing most of the needed resources.
